We have seen amazing advances in computer-generated imagery (CGI) over the past decade.

3D image creation is now affordable for and accessible to educational publishers.

For this project, we built 3D models for the “Star” family home and their local toy store.

The 3D backgrounds were then used in 32 animated 2D movies and throughout hundreds of illustrations in the student-books.

If you have a large project requiring the same visual content recurring across many pages and screens, it may be a perfect candidate for CGI.

Here is a sample page from a student book:

We produced hundreds of images from a relatively small set of 3D models. This allowed us a cost-effective way of creating a rich, detailed environment. By simply moving the camera and lights around in the spaces, we were able to create an engaging sense of an alternate real world where our 2D characters lived.

The animated movies primarily used a very low camera-angle from the character’s point of view, while the student book images used cameras positioned for a student-point-of view.

Inspiring the Student

For over 30 years, we have been designing and producing beautiful, engaging products for the educational publishing community.
